Pride PROM news and photos
Over 50 people kicked of the 17th annual Jersey Pride Festival with jsQSpot's 1st Annual Pride PROM, Saturday night, May 31. The jsQSpot team of Sharon & Maya, welcomed arriving guests wearing celebration tuxedos, gowns, and casual attire, pointing them to the dance floor and the Music by SAS. Evening delicacies were prepared by GLOW volunteers, Rita, Maya, and Marie; the coffee, as usual, was donated by The Asbury Park Roastery. Parking and security volunteers, Bill, Patty and Traci worked the parking lot and grounds of the Bradley Beach Banquet Hall. We are all looking foward to next year's bigger and better Jersey Pride Celebration Dance. Stay tuned...

The QSpot March and Jersey Pride Fesitival Report and Photos
"Be Happy, Be Gay" was the chant of 15 jQSpot marchers, wearing their tee shirts and marching alongside the North Jersey PFLAG float. Hundreds of well wishers lined the march route down Cookman Ave. to Grand Ave to Convention Hall. Spectators cheered us on with applause, chants and flag waving "hellos". A "special Hello Dolly" cameo was seen from her balcony window cheering us on and applauding our team while we sang, "Hello Dolly" to her. Fun & Pride filled the air for all of us that day.

Qspot Visits Brookdale College Class in May

On May 5th, 2008 the jsQSpot was the subject of a classroom term paper project for Professor Earl Teasley's SOCI 105 classroom at Brookdale College in Lincroft, NJ. Its topic was to report on how the local GLBTIQ community impacts their lives. Qspot chairperson Maryann Buchanan spoke to the class about jsQspot activities in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

April 7th Volunteer meeting success

Qspot’s “Calling All Volunteers” meeting on Monday, April  7th was a huge success.  More than 30 people attended our first official event at the Community Health Center in Asbury Park, our new space.  The enthusiasm in the room was palpable as we learned about school bullying legislation from parents involved in PFLAG and  other issues facing gay youth from an advocate employed by Monmouth Cares.  Brookdale Community College students joined our meeting to learn more about Qspot in preparation for a class presentation. Volunteers with various background, but with a common desire to contribute their skills to the GLBTI community, in particular our gay youth, signed up to give their time and energy to further Qspot’s goals. Photos from the gathering are below.

There are still many opportunities to volunteer for fundraising, publicity and communication, the youth initiative, event set-up, Quesday presentations, and much more. Just follow the “volunteer” link here to learn more.
